to train more range safety officers. Expanding the range safety officer pool
increases the
number of range safety officers available to oversee day to day shooting and
club sanctioned
events. Range Safety Officers will be
issued bright orange caps denoting that they are range officers.
As
always, if there are any questions, feel free to bring forth your questions or
comments at any time.
Congratulations
to our new range safety officers.

SUNSET MOUNTAIN FISH &
GAME CLUB
RANGE AND SAFETY RULES
REVISED and APPROVED September
12, 2005
PREAMBLE: These rules
were established to ensure the health and safety of the members, guests, and the
community at large. Everyone should be aware that unique circumstances may
require additional rules to adapt to a particular situation. Safety IS
everyone’s responsibility. All members are required to know and understand Range
and Safety Rules and keep abreast of all changes. Each member is duty bound to
follow correct procedures and insure fellow members and their guests adhere to
all club rules. Violation of the Range and Safety Rules could result in
revocation of membership, civil liability or even fatal injury.
TEN BASIC RULES OF
FIREARMS SAFETY:
- *Treat every firearm
as if it were loaded.
- *Keep the muzzle
pointed in a safe direction. Keep the action open and unloaded. Keep your
finger off the trigger and outside the trigger guard until ready to shoot.
- *Be sure the barrel
of the firearm is free of obstructions. Check the chamber and magazine every
time you pick it up. Only carry and use ammunition which is appropriate for
your firearm.
- *Never point a
firearm at anything you do not intend to shoot. Agree to safe fields of fire
for yourself and your hunting companions and never swing your gun beyond your
area.
- *Positively identify
your target and what lies beyond. Make sure there is an adequate backstop when
hunting or target shooting.
- *Never pull your
firearm toward you by the muzzle. Unload your firearm when climbing a tree,
crossing a fence, jumping a ditch or traversing slippery or steep terrain.
- *Be aware of the
potential for ricochet. Never shoot at a hard, flat surface or water.
- *Unload firearms when
not in use, leaving the action open. Transport and carry firearms unloaded and
cased when traveling to and from the field or shooting range.
- *Store firearms and
ammunition separately in locked compartments and beyond the reach of children.
- *Never use alcohol or
drugs that can impair your judgment before or while shooting.
GENERAL RULES
(Indoor/Outdoor Range)

are allowed only when under member supervision.
- A member and guest(s)

them.
- *When a member brings
more than one guest to the club’s ranges, that member shall refrain from
shooting in order that he/she may ACTIVELY supervise their guests. There shall
be a maximum number of four (4) guests per member on the property at any given
time. Members are responsible for the safety, conduct and any damages to club
property incurred by their respective guests.
